neighborhood benches
Social cohesion in Dutch neighborhoods is declining. Corona measures reinforce this because there are too few opportunities to meet. BuurtBankjes encourages local residents to design the public space in front of their home as a permanent meeting place. Research shows that 84% of people who use the sidewalk as an extension of their home have a stronger bond with their neighbors. In this way we strengthen social cohesion, further reduce loneliness, reduce inequality and encourage active citizenship.
The sidewalk as a meeting place
80% of informal contact between neighbors takes place in the space between the house and the street, which largely consists of the sidewalk. People who use the sidewalk, for example by sitting on a bench, have much more frequent contact with their neighbors. The number of (planned) appointments with neighbors has risen from 16% to no less than 62%!
Collaborate
BuurtBankjes believes in connection and therefore works closely with social organisations, municipalities and BuurtBankjeshosts at home and abroad. The aim of collaborations is to reach and enthuse the various target groups.
