Nice story and a call!
Look at Peter doing a good job! He helps Nelly with all kinds of odd jobs around the house. He wrote a nice story about it and calls on Nelly to help because there are still some jobs to be done:
Glad you can help with a little sweat
"I was called on Monday afternoon by BUUV if I could lug a wardrobe down in the short term together with the resident Nelly in the center of Haarlem. I agreed to this.
Talked to her the same afternoon and agreed for Wednesday evening because the cupboard was collected by the Snuffelmug on Thursday morning for reuse. It was close to her heart, the wardrobe that had been made by her parents. Nelly bravely helped to bring down the cupboard elements, but that was hard for her. Then you're glad you can help her with a little sweat."
Solve extra things
"After that, we had a cup of tea and heard a whole story about the imminent move to the Slachthuisbuurt. With a laundry list of things that had to be done. We were able to solve two extra things and give her advice about the washing machine and the dismantling the high-low bed In between we had a nice conversation about our 35 years of living in the center and our mutual interest in working with stones.
Sad (but she's not alone!)
"Nelly really needs a lot of help with the move and furnishing the new home. I hope that many BUUVs will help her. If I hadn't gone on holiday, I could have done a little more for her, remove carpet from the rooms and what not more. Many people had offered help, but now that the time has come, she is almost alone.
Thanks for all your help Peter, you are the best. And enjoy your vacation. We will make sure that Nelly is not alone.
Jos is a handy Harry
Helping others is helping yourself Jos van der Peijl (69 years old): “I have been active at BUUV for about three years and I am a Handy Harrie from home. A few times a week I do various odd jobs for people. Replacing a lamp, hanging curtains and more such things. Hanging the curtains has even led to a beautiful friendship. I was asked by the mother of an autistic boy to change his curtains. That worked and in the end the mother and I had a nice contact. We made nice trips with my boat and we still get along well." She happy, I happy. Great deal! "What I like about BUUV is the social contacts you get, you get to know a lot of different people that you might not normally meet. For example, I recently visited a man who hardly leaves his home because of illness. He was so happy that I helped him. What is very normal to me, is very special to someone else. That part makes it extra beautiful for me and it is nice to be able to help others. When you help others, you also help yourself. And sometimes does the person I have been to for a job do something for me again. That is not necessary of course, but it is very nice. For example, the lady where I painted the kitchen wants to sew cushions for my boat. She is happy, I am happy. Great deal anyway ?!" Share these stories and inspire others to help too!
